
While walking through the woods near Ommen, I noticed something tiny darting through the pine branches above me. It moved so fast I almost wasn't able to grab this shot, but at some point it stopped just long enough for me to press the shutter button.
This is a Goldcrest (Regulus regulus), and it's the smallest bird in Europe! They weigh only around 5 grams! Despite its size and weight, it's incredibly active and remarkably fearless, this one paid no attention to me standing below it with a giant lens.
