We spotted this one crossing a gravel road in Dorob National Park, moving with that distinctive rocking walk that chameleons are famous for. It stood absolutely still and slowly changed colours. It started of very dark, almost black, so that it could heat up form the sun. After 10 minutes or so it turned this spotted brown pattern, it was so cool to see! It happened too slow to notice it at first, but when comparing the photos it's a completely different colour.
This is a Namaqua Chameleon (Chamaeleo namaquensis), one of the only chameleon species in the world that has adapted to life in the desert. While most chameleons live in trees, this one spends its days on the ground, hunting insects and small lizards across the gravel plains of the Namib.
